3 Reasons to Install a Generator This Summer

Even though we made it through the winter’s ice and snow, that doesn’t mean that we’re through with power outages. Severe weather conditions can still bring down trees and disrupt your electricity supply, especially when thunderstorms roll through in the summertime. If you’ve been considering installing a generator at your home, now is a great time to do it. At Chamberlin Electric, we have installed over 2,000 generators in NH and MA, so it’s safe to say that we’re the experts.

Here are 3 reasons why summer is the time to install generators in NH.

(Mostly) Mild Weather

Although one of the reasons you want a generator in the summer is the stormy weather, early summer weather is generally mild, which makes it the perfect time to install a generator. Installing a stand-by generator can involve pouring concrete, landscaping, trenching, and drilling holes. All those things are much easier to do when the weather is nice and the ground is dry. By early summer, the ground is dry after thawing in the spring.

Time to Prepare

We’ve been at this for over 30 years, but it’s always nice to have a grace period to ensure that everything is working properly. When you install a generator in the summer, you have plenty of time to test it before a big storm hits and it has to do the heavy lifting. That added time also means that there is no need to rush the installation or work around bad weather conditions.

Beat the Heat

While power outages in the winter come with risks like frozen pipes, losing power in the summer can be catastrophic, too. Food in your refrigerator is only good for four hours after the power goes out. If you have a sump pump, a power outage from a storm can cause it to fail and lead to basement flooding. When you install a stand-by generator, you don’t have to worry about any of that. If the power goes out, the generator will kick in and your electricity will be virtually uninterrupted.
